amanda, is the best driver in the world.traffic police love her [:

that night, the five of us (gabby, wang, cbay, marli and suzy) placed our lives and 5 potential medals into 2 very small hands, and it was the best and most exciting car ride of our lives [:

conclusions:

1) amanda can row faster than she drives

suzanne seah: "amanda, you're driving at 40km/h"
amanda: "noooo!it's 55km/h okay!"

shaun:"you can take PIE and it'll bring you directly to.."
amanda:" huh don't want la, expressways are scary"
suzanneseah:" yahh. must go above 40km/h"

2) amanda can park!

amanda: "hello shaun, can you come and park my car for me?"
gabby,wang,cbay,marli,suzanneseah: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! PARK YOURSELFFFF"
amanda:" huh okay, let the other car go first la"
-10 min later-
gabby, wang, cbay, marli, suzanne seah:" YAYYY YOU DID IT!AMANDA! YOU PARKED YOUR CAR!"

3) amanda is a dangerous driver! she cut a BUS and almost got shaun run over

shaun: "wha amanda! just now you just cut a bus and i almost crashed right into it lah!"
amanda:" oh really? i didn't see!"

4) amanda is a role model driver who did very well for her theory

amanda: "hey there's another new driver behind me!"
wang: "ya she's going at 40km/h too"
amanda: "hey! but that's correct! you're supposed to stay 2 secs behind the car that's in front of you!"

5) amanda can now u-turn very well!

amanda:" oh no we're lost!"
wang:" it's okay amanda, you can practice your u-turns many many times!"

HEHH [:
it's okay amanda! soon you'll be zooming around and flouting all sorts of traffic rules (as soon as you stop taking the bus) and all of us'll stop making fun of you
we're amazed! honestly! [:

training is therapeutic,

what a sad, sad child. :(
however, one must take into account, the fact that Rachel lives in a hole. She is shockingly unaware of the existence of Christian Bale (who by the way, is one of the best actors of today). Famous names such as Richard Gere, and Ewan McGregor are also foreign to her. Even quotes like 'jenny from the block!' do not escape this doleful ignorance. Therefore, if you closely associate and evaluate her lack of life and exposure with this appalling techno-noobiness, you might be able to obtain a clearer understanding of why she is such a noob.

there is more to the story, but it's a bit lengthy, so Rachel, you'd better thank the heavens i cannot further expose your techno-noobiness.

Just kidding mommy. I still love you and your technonoobiness :-)

National schools dragonboat is officially over. And i guess, we can say that we've officially retired from dragonboat racing. But as for saturday itself, it was simply amazing.

I really have to thank each one of you for making my last race such a memorable one. Honestly, I was more scared for the 10 crew than anything else. Perhaps most of you could sense my anxiousness when i started counting out all the other crews out there, wondering where in the world we'll stand. 2 NJ, 2 NY. MR 500 really made me worried, we didn't event make it past heats. I was so worried that we'll screw up or something along the way. I guess it was pretty obvious how I kept going TOGETHER FOLLOW in my entire email. You could say, I was simply scared that we wouldn't live up to expectations.

But seeing how each of you really wanted to do this together really made be believe that it'd go just fine. Thank you Gabby for never failing to ease tensions and bringing out the team spirit. I wouldn't say I was worry free when I race, it was just like any other race. But what made this one different & special was the togetherness of it all. The fight for a common goal. I mean, how often do you get to row together as an entire team. I've always wondered how anyone can enjoy any single race. Its so painful. How on earth could you enjoy it. But, guess what, now I know that it's possible. I loved every bit of that last race. And I'm glad that we pulled through this entire year together as a team and how we pulled though each and every stroke for each other knowing that the 9/19 are doing just the same. Trusting our pacers and each other. I don't know how to say it but it just felt different. Even though we didn't emerge champions, beat nj or whatsoever. It was still the best race we've ever rowed. (: and made our many trngs worthwhile.

Thank you crystal and gabby for having to worry so much about whether the stroke rates were okay, and taking on the super stressful job. Don't think anyone could've done it better than you two. Jasmine, for putting in so much effort even though you came in much later than everyone else. Py, for making things move. Mingy! for booking all those boats. Bernice, for pulling through even though you were stressed about being in the 10 boat! Jean, for trng alongside with us even though you've a million and one things. Thank you cl for attempting to crack all those lame jokes. Ht for supporting me all this while even though i always claim you annoy me. (:

And special thanks to suzie (: , my dragonboat partner for sitting beside me and quietly encouraging me every trng, and every race. Each time I feel like dying I'll somehow catch your eye and we'll both carry on rowing somehow.

To the juniors, this is just the start. All the best for pa paddles! & come back stronger next year (:

Now that dboat nationals is over. The bigger challange is, how are we going to move on from here? Where are we going to take AC canoeing &dboat to? We haven't had better than 4th for sometime. Seniors of 2008, let's make things different this year. Canoeing nationals 2nd! Together we can work towards it (:

Let's go AC!

Girls, this is the most impt dragonboat race of the year. For seniors, it'll be your last day of dragon boat racing as an acjc canoeist. For juniors, you've been given the opportunity to race to represent the school, treasure it. This is the race that we've been training for. MR 500 was an exposure race. National schools, we have ONE chance, just ONE chance to win it.
For the 20 crew, there are only four boats in our race. Straight finals. Go out there and give it your all. FIGHT HARD. Believe in your team mates and in yourself, fight for each other. Believe that you can beat them. EVEN NJ. If we do this together. Remember, PULL HARD, PULL TOGETHER.
For the 10 crew, Even though the it'll be immediately after the 20 crew finals, go all out for the 20. Don't compromise. As for the 10 crew it'll really be our last race together. (: After all the earlier races, double trainings. Don't leave this race with regrets.

Move together, not as individuals.

Let's go AC!
(:

Big Chris' Words Of Wisdom

to the AC team of 2008,

hello everybody, you all know me as big chris the quartermaster and your goofy senior, but soon i will be a super army man. as you know, the final batch of j3 guys (except for jonan) are going to be enlisted before your national schools dragonboat, so i found it apt that i should contribute my WOW before i miss the chance to.

while some of the grandseniors have been watching and helping you guys at training, be it at the gym in school, or during dragonboat sessions, i have personally been there for most of the trainings to help and watch over you guys. in case you were wondering why the other grandseniors are not around as often and mistake that for no concern, i'd like to inform you all that the grandseniors are very concerned over how you guys are doing. they are constantly checking with me about the team's performance as well as standings compared to the other schools. the grandseniors are watching you a lot more closely than you all realize. as grandseniors, there is a fine line for us between giving advise and suggestions and interferring with the senior's ways of dealing with issues. our time has passed, and we cannot always be there to watch over you guys, so this is where our WOW becomes useful.

the first issue i'd like to address the team on is the diet. i know, for a fact, and i can actually list people who i know break the diet.
i'd like to emphasize that fried food covered in sauce is still not good for you, in case some of you didn't know. oh yes, and alcohol too, it's dehydrating. i don't know if they realise that such food is not allowed, or they thought no one was looking, or they simply just did not care, we know about it. but then again, as grandseniors, it's a very uncomfortable and awkward position for us to be intruding in such matters. just because no one is stopping you, does not mean it is right. as a mature althelete, you are the one responsible for your own performance and progress, not your coach or captain. the diet, along with its purpose to cleanse the body, is also a mental test of the bonds you have within your team.

next is attendence. amongst the seniors, i do not see any major problems due to the heavy requirements and burdens on you to perform well in school, as well as on the water. this is not to say that it is excusable. however, the attendence amongst the j1s is sometimes a joke. outings, dinners, meeting friends is just another excuse for yourself. if you think you're training hard and you need a break, think again. look around at the other schools. every training you miss, you slide down while they inch up. it's almost as clear cut and simple as that. look at the schools on the top of the table and on the bottom. the amount they train is directly proportional to their results, this i kid you not. the only way to improve is to train hard and to train smart.

by now, you all should know basic proper sports nutrition and exercise it after every training. if you're injured, recover. if you're on the verge of burning out and breaking down, talk to the captains or the coaches. if you can't handle school and canoeing, then you just have to juggle your time better. you are all students first, then canoeists, so it is extremely important to be able to manage your time well. while you can always drop the cca, you can't drop out of school. to excel and be something, you must make some sacrifices in your life. that is the price tag of sucess.

when you train, give it your all. don't waste your time, and everyone else's time. your teamates are there to urge you on to improve with them, while the coaches are there to help with technique as well as being very knowledgable about almost everything concerning the sport. the coaches are there to help you train smart. trust them because they know what they are doing and what's the best for the team. you will never see the big picture as clearly as they can.

if you trust your teamates, you will never have to see the disappointed faces of the 19 other rowers in a dragonboat and all your teamates and coaches on shore. its one of those things that you don't have to experience first-hand to know that you don't want it to ever happen to you.
many things can break or make a team, and one of them is doubts between teamates. clear all animosity before the race and know that you have poured your heart out into this team and you gave your best at all your trainings, and then you will race with no regrets. if you skipped a training or two or three or four, or you slacked off at a few sets during training, know now that there is nothing you can do about it now. now it's time to race for your dragonboat competition. now is the time to stop all that slacking and give it your all. no one can expect more of you than that.

to the guys in the team. the juniors, i have had the chance to meet and train with some of you during your tuesday land and those that come on sunday water. yes, i even rememeber some of your names. your seniors can be tough, mean and scary, but they do care for you and want to see you improve. as ego-crushing as this may sound, they want to see you row even faster than they can row and they want you all to be the best that you can be. prove it to them that you are worth their time of day. seniors, the reason why i don't row with you all is because there usually isn't enough boats and i'm not going to pretend i can keep up in a T1 or even a K1. while you all think i'm not rowing because of other reasons, i don't want to be an uneccesary burden to the team by hogging boats and being unable to keep up with your pace of training. i've seen the entire progress when you all first joined the ac team and i was very pleasantly amazed with the performance at njcc. it is quite safe to say that all the seniors are proud of what you all managed to achieve and are eager in anticipation for the results of the big one in a few months time, as well as this weekends results.

to the girls in the team, thank you for helping me carry my boat whenever i come for training, haha. there are now 20 odd juniors in the team, and this is an extraordinary sight that astounds even the coaches because there has never been such a huge batch before. the trainings that you all are going through now is tough, and many of you will feel like dropping out. look towards your seniors and coaches for support and advice, because they are very helpful. train hard and make your seniors proud to have set aside some of their time to train you all. the seniors, i don't merely go down at water trainings just to pick a boat to go faster than you all do. the programmes that i have done with you were not as easy for me as you think it was. to stay on par or ahead of you, i am constantly being pushed to my limits. personally, i don't see this as a bad thing. i know you all hate losing to such a retarded grandsenior, which is why i'm glad you all really want to kill me every time you see me in the water. though i won't be around anymore, push your teamates on so that the team can improve together. it has really been my pleasure to train along with you girls for the past few months. i am looking forward to the results of all the races!

at the end of the day, this entire ac caneoing and dragonboat experience is going to be what you make of it. in all honesty, you're going to get at least double of whatever you put into the team. after 2 years as a rower in the team, i'm walking away with 5 dragonboat medals and not a single canoeing medal. but medals isn't everything. this team gave me many many good memories, great friendships and other things that no amount of medals or even money can make up for. ask any of the seniors (maybe except david, haha), and they will tell you that the medal was secondary. what counted the most to us was that we were a team and we all pushed each other along and we raced with our best efforts. we all ended our careers with no regrets and with many strong friendships, and it's my wish that you all are able to do the same.

all the best for your nationals!

your very cool j3 grandsenior
